Not all of life's journeys run smoothly, sometimes there are challenges and obstacles, as experienced by one of Oprah's famous figures. It all started with a spelling mistake. Her name should have been Orpah, according to one of the words adopted by her parents. However, maybe it was because of that mistake that ultimately helped him achieve success.

At the age of six to thirteen, Oprah lived with her mother and grandmother in Milwaukee. Every day her grandmother taught him to read aloud and give speeches. That may be the forerunner of Oprah's talent as a host. As a child he experienced a sad incident, she was sexually abused by her male cousin and finally chose to leave home.

Initially, she looked for a place to live in a troubled youth center. But it was rejected because it was full. Finally, he asked for help from her father who had been separated from her mother for a long time. He moved to Nashville. Her father, was a former soldier who was very disciplined. Every day Oprah was ordered by her father to come home before the "curfew" was set. Every week, her father orders her only daughter to read a book and must make a report on her reading to her father.

“He was obsessed with making me successful in life and wouldn't accept my job except for what he thought I was capable of doing,” says Oprah.

The beginning of her career as a host started at the age of 17 when she became a radio announcer at WVOL, a radio station in Nashville. Initially, she was only invited to come to be interviewed as the first black girl to win the Miss Pageant beauty contest in the United States. However, when he was picking up her belongings, he was suddenly called by some of the radio staff.

“Would you like to listen to the recording of your voice on the radio earlier?” asked the radio staff. As soon as Oprah listened to the sound of the tape, she intended to go home. But instead he was asked to read several news scripts. Then it continues to be an offer as a radio announcer at the station.

Two years later, her career rose from being a radio announcer to becoming a reporter and news anchor for WTVF-TV in Nashville. This too has a story behind it. Previously, the owner of the TV station heard Oprah read the news on the radio. “I heard your voice on the radio. Do you want to be a TV announcer?” so the request. Up to three requests, Oprah still refused. Until one day, he was confused about what else to answer to refuse the offer. She told her lecturer on campus. “They kept asking me to become a TV announcer. Even if I took that job, I would never be able to complete my education.”

The lecturer responded by answering “Do you know why people go to high school? So they can get job offers! You even refused."

Subsequent developments In 1976, Oprah moved to Baltimore and worked at WJZ-TV as a newsreader and reporter. She also occasionally gets assignments as a host on a talk show at the TV station, namely People Are Talking.

In January 1984, she moved again to the Chicago TV station WLS-TV. Here she became a newsreader. Due to frequent misreading (not following the text) and causing broadcast recordings to be redone because she often laughed at her mistakes, she was transferred to host AM Chicago. When offered this position, she hesitated and replied, "I'm a broadcaster, where can I host a talk show?"

Added to this is the fear that he has been banished from the news broadcaster and that if this time it also fails, her whole life will be ruined. Oprah is getting tense. However, reality says otherwise. AM Chicago, which initially occupied the lowest rating of all talk shows in Chicago, managed to reach the top rating less than a year after being hosted by Oprah. Showtime was added, from what was originally only half an hour to one hour. It wasn't enough there, the broadcast coverage that was only local was changed to national. The name was changed to The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Since then, until now The Oprah Winfrey Show has become one of the most watched shows in America. Oprah is also the richest female celebrity in the world to date. That's how Oprah's long and winding journey has never made her turn into a proud person.
